Collapse of Residential Complex in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, March 3 (NA) – A collapse occurred in a residential complex located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Parque Patricios in the early hours of Tuesday. The three-story building saw the collapse of the underground parking garage roof. According to the Argentine News Agency, the incident occurred at the intersection of Avenida Suárez and Mafalda. As a result of the incident, 300 families were evacuated. A 38-year-old woman, who refused to be transferred to Penna Hospital, is receiving oxygen therapy at the scene. Fire and Civil Defense personnel are working at the site, where there is a risk of collapse, and are assessing the structure. The Fire Chief stated that the building was evacuated preventively and that 'there are no injuries', while also noting that 'supplies were cut off preventatively' and that the causes of the collapse are still unknown. 'The people were evacuated and the supplies were cut, all preventatively,' he expressed and added: 'Surely an architect or an engineer will evaluate the structure and give the green light for people to return.' Additionally, the Fire Chief said that two Rescue and Rescue groups worked at the site, and stated that 'maintenance work was being done due to leaks' although he clarified that 'that will have to be evaluated by qualified personnel'.
